Emergency repair? (515) 373-1207

Emergency repairs when it cannot wait

Water where it should not be, a door or window that will not lock, storm damage, a fence down. Call or text and tell us what is happening.

Do these first, before you call

The right action early can be the difference between a repair and a renovation. None of this needs tools or expertise.

1

Stop the water

If water is running where it should not be, shut it off. Most fixtures have a valve directly beneath or behind them. If you cannot find it, the main shutoff is usually where the water line enters the house, often near the water heater or in the basement.

2

Keep water away from electricity

If water is anywhere near outlets, fixtures or a panel, do not touch them. Shut off the affected circuit at the breaker if you can reach it safely and dry. If you cannot, leave it and stay out of the room.

3

Photograph everything

Before you clean up or move anything, take photos and a short video. Insurance claims go far more smoothly with evidence of the damage as it happened, and it costs you thirty seconds.

4

Make it safe, not pretty

Cover a broken window with plywood or heavy plastic, move what you can out of the water, put down towels. Temporary is fine. The permanent fix can wait for daylight.

Call the right people first

Some emergencies are not handyman work, and sending the wrong person costs you time you do not have.

Smell gas? Leave the building first, then call 911 and your gas utility from outside. Do not flip switches on your way out.
Fire, or anything smoking? Call 911.
Sparking, burning smell from a panel or outlet? That is an electrician, and possibly the fire department.
Sewage backing up, or no water at all? That is a plumber, and if it affects the whole street, your utility.
Power lines down? Stay well clear and call the utility.

Once the immediate danger is handled, the repair and clean-up afterwards is exactly what we do.

What we handle

Water damage clean-up and repair — drywall, ceilings and trim
Boarding up broken windows and securing openings
Doors that will not close, latch or lock
Storm damage to siding, soffit, fascia and gutters
Fences and gates blown down
Deck boards, rails and steps that have become unsafe
Broken locks and door hardware
Roof leaks covered temporarily until a roofer can get there

How to reach us fastest

Call if it is serious. If you cannot talk, or it is the middle of the night, send a text with a photo — a picture tells us more in one second than five minutes of description, and it lets us arrive with the right materials instead of making a second trip.

What counts as an emergency?

Anything that is getting worse by the hour, or that leaves your home unsecured or unsafe. Water spreading, a door that will not lock, something structural that has given way. If you are not sure, call and ask.

What if it turns out to be a plumber or electrician job?

We will say so when you call, so the right trade can be booked first.

Will insurance cover it?

That depends on your policy and the cause, and we are not the ones to advise you on it. Photograph everything before you clean up, call your insurer early, and keep receipts. We can provide documentation of the repair work for your claim.
