Painting, inside and out
Rooms, ceilings, trim and doors, plus the touch-ups that never quite get done. Prepared properly before any paint goes on.
What we paint
Most of painting is preparation
The finish is decided before the first coat. Holes and dents get filled and sanded, gaps at trim get caulked, glossy surfaces get scuffed so the new paint grips, and bare or patched areas get primed. Furniture is moved or covered, floors are protected, and edges are cut in rather than taped over badly.
Where a wall has been repaired, primer over the patch stops it showing through the topcoat as a dull spot. Where the color is changing substantially, more than one coat is normally needed for even coverage.
How a painting job runs
Walk the rooms
We look at the surfaces, the condition, the trim count and what has to be moved or protected, then price it.
Pick the paint
You can supply it, or we can. Keeping a note of the brand, color and sheen makes future touch-ups far easier.
Prepare
Fill, sand, caulk, mask and prime. This is the part that takes the time.
Paint and tidy
Cut in and roll, usually two coats. Furniture goes back and the room is left usable.
What changes the price
Older homes need checking first
If your house was built before 1978, the paint underneath may contain lead, and federal rules govern renovation work that disturbs it, which includes sanding and scraping. We raise it before starting rather than partway through.

Common questions
What affects how long a room takes?
Preparation is the variable. Heavy filling, multiple colors, extensive trim and a dark-to-light color change all add to it. We give you a timeframe with the quote, once we have seen the room.
Do you move the furniture?
We move what is reasonable and cover the rest. Anything fragile or valuable is better moved out by you beforehand.
Can you match a color I already have?
Yes. If you still have the can, keep it aside. If not, a sample can be matched at the paint counter, though an aged wall may still read slightly differently.
Do you paint exteriors in winter?
Most exterior paints have a minimum application temperature, so exterior work is scheduled for the warmer months. Interior work carries on year round.
Do you paint cabinets?
Yes, though cabinets need more preparation than walls and are priced separately.
