Gutter cleaning and repair
Clearing, flushing and resecuring gutters before the weather turns. Downspouts, loose hangers and leaking seams included.
Why gutters get booked in fall
Gutters move roof water away from the house. When they fill with leaves and grit, water spills over the edge instead, running down the fascia and pooling against the foundation. In a central Iowa winter, water that cannot drain also freezes in the trough, and the weight of that ice pulls gutters loose from the fascia.
Leaves here keep dropping into November, so a property with mature trees sometimes needs a second pass after the last of them come down.

A note on gutter guards
Guards reduce how much gets into the trough. They do not remove the need for maintenance: grit and shingle granules still pass through, seeds germinate on top of some designs, and the guards themselves have to be cleared. A guarded gutter is usually cleaned less often rather than never.

Common questions
How often do gutters need clearing?
Twice a year is typical, in spring and in fall. A house with overhanging trees often needs more; a house in the open can go longer.
Do you fix gutters as well as clean them?
Yes. Resealing seams, refitting hangers and reattaching sections that have pulled away are part of what we do. Full gutter replacement is a different job and we will say so if that is what it needs.
Do I need to be home?
No, as long as there is access to the outside of the house and to an outdoor tap if flushing is needed.
Can you look at the roof while you are up there?
We can note what is visible from the gutter line. We are not roofers, so anything beyond that needs a roofing contractor.
What about ice dams?
Clear gutters and downspouts let meltwater drain, which helps. Ice dams also come from heat escaping into the attic, which is an insulation and ventilation question rather than a gutter one.
